The Grammys
So was everyone as bored as I was by the Grammys?
Seems that they were more interested in the acts performing than the actual presentation of the awards. Granted, some of the performances were worth the wait; Moby, Faith Hill, Destiny's Child and, yes I'll admit it, Eminem & Elton John. Although none compared to last years Santana/Rob Thomas performance they came close.
So...Here's my views of the show:
  • Madonna - Give it up. You haven't done anything worth listening to since 'Beautiful Stranger'. Isn't it about time to stop living on your past accomplishments and go back to doing what made you who you are?
  • Macy Gray - Thank you for beating out Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears. At least we know they didn't doctor your vocal tracks on the recordings.
  • U2 - Nice way to make a comeback, guys. 'Beautiful Day' is the icing on the cake of a long and illustrious career. Plus you beat that whiny group Creed for Best Rock Performance of the Year. And The Edge can talk.
  • Eminem - You deserve the Rap Album of the year. It was creative and innovative. Hope the follow-up can top it.
  • Shelby Lynne - If you already have six albums out how can you be up for Best New Artist of the Year? I think Sisqo should demand a recount on this one.
  • Destiny's Child - Why break-up? You worked your butts off to get where you are. We want more. As a side note - Did anyone else catch Madonna's sneer as Destiny's Child left the stage?
  • Moby - Pure musical genius. More! More! More!
  • Shakira - You do know Spanish, right? You didn't need a crash course in the language like Christina Aguilera did?
  • Faith Hill - I've forgiven you for ruining one of the greatest rock classics of all time (Janis Joplin's 'Piece Of My Heart').
  • Jon Stewart - Only half of the jokes worked. Liked the Napster bit and the Britney Spears dig. Don't worry. Whoopi wasn't that great the first time out, either.
  • Elton John & Eminem - Enough said. It was probably the highlight of the evening whether you liked it or hated it. I have to agree with Michael Greene: This is what music is all about. Bridging the gaps and knocking down the barriers that have been put up by parents, teachers, politicians and the record buying public. How about next year we see Marilyn Manson & Britney Spears collaborating on a song. (If either of them are still around.)

    Quote of the Week
Michael Greene on the upcoming Eminem / Grammy to-do:
'The only additional people that might come to this (the Grammy's) are the same people who slow down to watch car wrecks...the same kind of people who tune in to watch miscreants eat rats on desert islands...'
Guess he hasn't seen the latest television ratings.
