I actually enjoy watching programs that spout off lists of 'the best of' just
about anything. I'm sure that somewhere there is a list for the 'Best Animals in a
Starring Role' or even 'The Best Songs by New Acts in any Genre'. The latter would
be a short list of 5 songs while the former would probably cover 100 entries. But
it's the lists that fascinate me. For some unknown reason I very rarely agree with
the compilers. Let's take, for example, CMT's compilation of the '40 Sexiest Country
Videos'. While I agreed with about 75 percent of the videos, I had to cringe most
of the night while I watched the show...
For starters, I was very upset that Rosanne Barr was chosen as the host of this show.
She is about as sexy as an elephant in heat and as funny as a dying deer by the side of
the road. What mental genius came up with the thought that this, for lack of a better word,
'woman' could pull it off. She oozes country about as much as Ice-T. And to be honest with
you, Ice-T probably would have done a better job.
That aside, I was disappointed in some of the videos that didn't make the list. 'You
Can't Take the Honky Tonk Out Of the Girl', 'Red Neck Woman', 'That Don't Impress Me
Much' and 'Did I Shave My Legs For This', just to name a few, were snubbed in favor of
Willie Nelson...Willie Nelson?
And why is Keith Urban at number one with 'Raining On Sunday'. Were woman the only
one's that voted on this? I would have voted for 'Breathe' or 'Man! I Feel Like a
Woman!'. Maybe even 'Chrome' or 'Hot Mama'. Now those four videos are sexy. They drip
sensuality and sex. Am I the only one who disagrees and thinks Keith Urban should have
been farther down the list? Like around the the number twenty spot? Deana Carter's
'Strawberry Wine' definitely should have made the top ten, right along with George Strait
and LeAnn Rimes.
I can think of one song that could have been put on the list, but since it was recorded
in the pre-video era we won't see it here. One of the hottest songs (and you can take that
anyway you want), in my opinion, would have to be John and June Carter Cash's
'Jackson'. You could feel the sex and sensuality exploding off the vinyl. No video necessary,
thank you.
If you're a country music fan and you think the list is all wrong, let me know. We'll
put our own list together. Give me your top five videos and in a couple of weeks I'll
post our own list of 'Sexiest Country Videos'.
