Mark Hill
Shadow
Her heat, her fire, in her soul, desire
To look at her, burning, how she needs
How I'd like to reach out, to feel the flame
But this shadow in my heart, I still feel

To cuddle and coddle and make her feel safe
To snuggle and nuzzle and make her smile
How much I want to show her, to hold her close
But the shadow chokes and gags me

She smiles and walks past me, turning away
Her voice speaks farewell and fades as she leaves
How much I want to grab her, to hold her here
But the shadow inside trips up my feet
